Assam’s Charaideo Maidam included in UNESCO World Heritage list

The Charaideo Maidam in Assam has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list under the cultural property category. This decision was made during the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee in Delhi. The nomination was selected from 52 sites proposed by the Indian government. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat praised the efforts of the Assam government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this achievement. Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the cultural and historical significance of the Moidams, which represent the mound burial tradition of the Tai-Ahoms from the 13th to 19th century. Charaideo Moidams is the first cultural heritage site from Northeast India to be recognized by UNESCO and the third World Heritage Site in Assam.
