One of the best arms on the reliever market might now be off the board.
On Thursday, the Oakland Athletics announced that righty pitcher Mason Miller has been placed on the 15-day injured list.
Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reported that Miller suffered a fractured pinkie finger in his left, non-pitching hand.
According to Gallegos, the 25-year-old reportedly pounded a padded training room table in frustration after the Athletics’ 4-0 win over the Houston Astros on Monday. Miller did not record a strikeout during the game.
Miller has been a highly speculated name on the trade market this season, recording 15 saves, a 2.21 ERA, and a 1.69 FIP across 34 appearances for Oakland. However, considering this recent injury, it’s possible Miller could remain with the Athletics through the deadline.
In a related move, right-handed pitcher Ross Stripling has been reinstated from the injured list.
