Renowned movie producer and director Kevin Smith has recently shed light on his long-time friend Ben Affleck’s current struggles, subtly hinting at potential marital issues with Jennifer Lopez.
During an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Kevin provided audiences with a glimpse into Ben’s life, suggesting that the actor is ‘going through a thing.’
Smith, who has collaborated with Affleck on multiple film projects including Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Clerks II, shared that he had noticed the media reports about Affleck’s troubles.
‘Obviously, he’s been going through a thing, or at least that’s what it says in the press and whatnot,’ Smith commented.
He continued: ‘I, being his least trustworthy friend who’s very loose-lipped… my wife was like, “Oh, you should reach out to him,”‘ he recounted.
‘I was like, “The last person he needs to hear from right now is the guy who chats a lot.” So when he’s in a good place, he’ll let me know.’
Looking ahead, Kevin Smith is gearing up to begin filming the next installment of Jay and Silent Bob later this year.
He hinted at the possibility of Affleck joining the project. ‘I’ll be reaching out to him,’ the 53-year-old director mentioned.
‘He may even come play, but I haven’t been anywhere near the situation.’
Smith’s comments come amid continued speculation about the breakdown of J Lo and Affleck’s marriage.
The pair were married in July 2022, but just two years after their wedding, rumours of a split have been swirling.
The duo first got together in 2002 and got engaged but called things off two years later in 2004.
Most recently, images of the pair sharing awkward public kisses have also circulated as it was claimed by an insider that Ben felt ‘temporarily insane’ during his marriage to J Lo.
The singer also cancelled her tour to ‘take time off to be with her children, family and close friends,’ and many have wondered if her marital problems were also a contributing factor.
