Cardinals, White Sox, Dodgers come together for seven-player trade

The St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers are adding depth to their pitching staffs in a three-team trade with the Chicago White Sox.

The Cardinals will receive right-handed starter Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham from the White Sox while the Dodgers are acquiring right-hander Michael Kopech from the White Sox and infielder Tommy Edman from the Cardinals. The White Sox will be receiving multiple prospects in the trade, as well as outfielder Miguel Vargas from the Dodgers.

Fedde, 31, returned to the majors this season after spending 2023 pitching in Korea. On a White Sox team that is last in the AL, he has been a rare bright spot, posting a 3.11 ERA in 21 starts with 108 strikeouts. He will become a free agent after the 2025 season.

Kopech, 28, switched to the bullpen this season and has made 43 appearances for the White Sox, recording nine saves. He has a 4.74 ERA with 59 strikeouts.

Edman, 29, has not played a game this season while recovering from off-season wrist surgery.

Vargas, 24, is under team control through the 2030 season. He has been limited to just 30 games this season but has posted a career-best .735 OPS while playing primarily in the outfield.

Pham, 36, returns to the Cardinals after breaking into the majors with St. Louis in 2014. This season he is hitting .266/.330/.380 with 14 doubles and 19 RBIs in 70 games for the White Sox.
