Defence building light tank for Army, first prototype realised: Govt on Proj 'Zorawar'

The Indian Defence Ministry has developed a prototype light tank for high-altitude deployment in the Indian Army, as revealed to the Parliament. Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, confirmed this in response to an inquiry about Project 'Zorawar', which aims to produce indigenous light tanks by 2027. The project involves DRDO and private firms, notably Larsen & Toubro Ltd, as the lead system integrator. The project cost is sanctioned at Rs 234.5 crores, covering design, development, and prototype realization. Seth also highlighted the contribution of multiple MSMEs in developing subsystems for the tank.
