The New South Wales Labor conference is set to challenge the federal government over its position on Palestinian recognition following last minute negotiations to strengthen one of the more contentious motions facing members.

It comes as the ACT Labor conference passed a motion on Saturday afternoon that called on the Australian government to immediately recognise Palestine as a state.
