Viewers of the 2024 Olympics reckon one athlete had an advantage in the rowing event.

Taking place in Paris, France, this weekend saw countries compete in the Men’s Double Sculls.

Consisting of two people, four oars, and one boat, the Double Sculls is often considered a rower’s favourite.

Representing Germany were two athletes named Julius Christ and Soenke Kruse. However, when their names appeared on-screen, people at home couldn’t help but make the obvious joke.

Taking to X, user dannymcginlay mocked’J. Christ’, writing: ‘Surely one of these blokes has an unfair advantage on the water?’

Of course, according to the Bible, Jesus Christ could walk on water, among other things, so it was rather amusing to see someone with a moniker almost identical to his appear in a boating race.

The tweet has been viewed over two million times, with thousands of comical responses flooding in.

‘I dont think they even need the boat lmfao’, joked Envyluna_.

User jusigris wrote: ‘one can walk on water and the other one is a cruise’, in a nod to the surname ‘Kruse’.

‘All that water about to turn into wine’, quipped rhoehan11.

Others shared their laughter over how hilarious the post was, declaring it ‘brilliant’ and a ’10/10′ tweet.

Fortunately for Christ and Kruse, they managed to save any embarrassment as their performance saw them achieve a confident finish.

After tackling the preliminary round with determination, the duo booked a ticket to the semi-finals at the Olympic Games by finishing third, behind pairs from Great Britain and South Africa.

Speaking afterwards, Christ said: ‘It was a solid race throughout. We drove well. We couldn’t have imagined our first Olympic appearance to be better.

‘It’s a dream to be able to compete here. And then to have a successful start to the tournament is a great feeling. I’m just very happy,’ Kruse added.

The Olympics only started mere days ago but it’s already proving endless memes and hysterical social media commentary.

One star people are loving is, of course, Snoop Dogg.

The musician secured himself a job as a sports commentator for NBC and Peacock this year and has been spotted attending several major events to ensure his analysis is well-informed.

On the second day, he took in the gymnastics action, which saw Team USA superstar Simone Biles top the leaderboard.

Snoop, 52, also marked the beginning of the Games by carrying the Olympic Torch through the streets of the French capital.

Flame in hand, the hip-hop icon powered through the rain on a short leg around the Stade de France on Friday morning, suitably wearing gold trainers.

Snoop – real name Calvin Broadus Jr – expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying: ‘I look at this as a prestigious honour and something I truly respect. I would have never dreamed of nothing like this.’

He added ahead of his big moment: ‘I’m going to be on my best behaviour. I’m going to be on my best athleticism. I’ll be able to breathe slow to walk fast and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realise how prestigious this event is.’

Snoop isn’t the only A-lister to have been spotted in Paris for the sporting extravaganza.

Actor Tom Cruise, Ariana Grande, plus Cynthia Erivo have been seen, as well as Lady Gaga who performed at the Opening Ceremony.

The Bad Romance hitmaker, 38, surprised millions of viewers by singing in French the classic Mon Truc En Plumes, after emerging from pink feathered pom poms, wearing a black bodice with a detachable black and pink ruffled skirt.

Reflecting, she later penned on social media that she felt ‘so completely grateful’ to have been offered the gig.

Gaga was later seen enjoying some downtime in the beloved city and also met with President Emmanuel Macron and his wife.

She wasn’t the only powerhouse vocalist taking centre stage for the Opening Ceremony, as Celine Dion also made an epic comeback with her first performance since revealing her Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) diagnosis.

The 56-year-old Canadian music icon closed the ceremony by belting out Edith Piaf’s L’Hymne A L’Amour from the middle of the Eiffel Tower, close to tears as she marked the major milestone.
