Saoirse Ronan has reportedly married long-term partner Jack Lowden.
The Irish actress, 30, had her breakthrough role playing Keira Knightley’s younger sister Briony in the 2007 film Atonement, which earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
She then went on to star in The Lovely Bones, Hanna, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Little Women.
In 2018, Saoirse starred as Mary Stuart in the film Mary Queen of Scots, where she met partner Jack Lowden, who played the monarch’s husband Lord Darnley.
The couple have thought to been dating since then, however have largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight.
However, after sparking engagement rumours last year, the couple are now said to have tied the knot in a ‘low-key’ secret ceremony in Jack’s native Scotland last weekend.
The Irish Independent has reported that ‘only a handful of the couple’s closest friends were present and all the guests were sworn to secrecy’.
The publication also said that the register of Scottish civil marriages records that Saoirse Una Ronan married Jack Andrew Lowden at the Edinburgh Central Registrar’s Office.
County Carlow raised Saoirse and Oxton raised Jack share a £2.3 million home in Islington, north London, with their terrier, Fran.
In 2020 she was also reported to have purchased a two-bedroom waterfront cottage in Ballydehob, west Cork.
Engagement rumours began about a year ago when the couple didn’t deny he’d proposed during a hiking holiday in Scotland last July.
The actor posted a photo from the summit of Ben Vrackie in Perthshire showing a hand, which appeared to be Ronan’s, wearing a diamond ring.
In 2019 Jack told ES Magazine he ‘wasn’t going to talk’ about their relationship and said he didn’t ‘like talking about that side of life’.
‘Most of the actors I know live pretty normal lives, it’s just every now and again they have to do something ridiculous or extraordinary. My life hasn’t changed. People seem more interested — I guess that’s changed, for sure,’ he added.
However, he did previously call Saoirse ‘remarkable’ and a ‘force of nature, on and off-screen’.
The actor has also appeared in movies and shows including War & Peace, Dunkirk and The Gold.
