If you’re wanting to dive into crafting any of Final Fantasy XIV’s Master Recipes, you’re going to need some form of Aethersand. For Dawntrail’s first Master Recipes (XI), you’re going to need some Sungilt Aethersand.
Aside from purchasing it for a lot of Gil on the Marketboard or purchasing it with Orange Gatherers' Scrips, there’s only one way to get Sungilt Aethersand — Aetherial Reduction. This is the process of gathering certain collectibles, right-clicking them within your inventory, and selecting 'Aetherial Reduction.'
In Dawntrail, there are five different nodes that reduce into Sunglit Aethersand. They're Collectable items for your Disciples of the Land, and spawn as Ephermeral nodes on the map. They also lack the usual 'Rarefied' descriptor in their name, and you're only guaranteed Sungilt Aethersand if you reach a collectability rating of 1000.
Electrocoal is currently the only Ephermeral (Collectable) that can be gathered by Miners for Sunglit sand. Your Miner will need to be at least level 95 in order to get any Electrocoal, which can be obtained from a timed node in Heritage Found at around (X:27.4, Y:12.2).
The Ephemeral Node you need will spawn between 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. Eorzean Time, so you’ll be able to gather from this node once per 1.5 hours of real time.
Like Miners, Botanists only currently have one Collectable which will grant Sunglit Aethersand when Aetherially Reduced. Also like it’s Miner counterpart, Goldbranch is obtained through a timed node, although this time you’ll find it in Shaaloani at around (X:16.1, Y:10.5).
This Ephemeral Node will become active between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Eorzean Time, so again, you’ll be able to come back to this Node and get more Goldbranch once every 1.5 hours.
Unlike both Miner and Botanist, Fishers have three separate Collectables which can be reduced to possibly give Sunglit Aethersand, maps for which I’ve provided above, but let's go into a little more detail on each.
If you’re looking to get collectables via fishing, you need to remember to use Collect in order to activate Collector’s Glove.
Horned Frogs can be fished up from Xobr’it Tsoly in Yak T’el. This tiny little fishing pond is on the eastern side of the map at around (X:34.9, Y:16.2). To catch Horned Frogs, you’ll first need to catch a Cloud-eye Carp using Golden Stonefly Nymph as your bait. Then, you’ll need to use the Mooch ability and use the Cloud-eye Carp as your bait to catch the Horned Frog.
Shovelnose Catfish can be found in Marsh Ligaka, which is the large lake in the south of Kozama’uka (X:24.4, Y:31.5). You’ll need to use one of the following baits in order to lure a Shovelnose Catfish onto your line:
Sunlit Prism can be found in the western half of Iq Rrax Tsoly. This is just off the north eastern shoreline of Yak T’el, and you’ll need to make sure you stick to the western half of this body of water to get a Sunlit Prism.
Rather than casting your rod, you’re going to have to dive right into the water and get your Spearfishing Gig out. Sunlit Prism come in the shape of small shadows, with a medium movement speed.
