Kamala Harris' stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, has weighed in on J.D. Vance's recently resurfaced Fox News interview, in which he criticized the vice president for being "childless."

Ella is the 25-year-old daughter of second gentleman Doug Emhoff and his ex-wife, Kerstin Emhoff. She was 15 when her father married Harris and — along with her older brother, Cole — she has considered the vice president an additional parent since.

"How can you be 'childless' when you have cutie pie kids like cole and I," Ella wrote on her Instagram Stories on Thursday, July 25, responding to Vance's 2021 remark. "I love my three parents."

Ella's post also included a screenshot of how her mother, Kerstin, responded to Vance's now-viral interview.

"These are baseless attacks. For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and I," Kerstin wrote in a statement to CNN on Wednesday. “She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.”

Vance's controversial 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson went viral in recent days after he was named the Republican vice presidential nominee. In the clip, he named Harris among some "childless" Democrats who are "miserable at their own lives."

"What I was basically saying is that we're effectively run in this country — via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs — by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives in the choices that they've made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too," Vance said on Tucker Carlson Tonight at the time, referencing a previous speech he'd made.

"And it's just a basic fact. You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. And how does it make any sense that we've turned our country over to people who don't really have a direct stake in it?" he added.

Harris, 59, told PEOPLE during a 2023 sit-down interview that she takes pride in her stepchildren, who call her Momala.

"It’s the name the kids gave me, and I wear it proudly," she said.
