March of the Helldivers is a certified democratic banger that Helldivers 2 players can’t get enough of

Pretty much every Helldivers 2 player adores the game's main theme, "A Cup of Liber-Tea." Some fans have even created their own versions of it, which I wish we could set to play in our Superdestroyers. Now, developer Arrowhead Game Studios has broken us with yet another absolute banger of a track for the game.

March of the Helldivers popped up out of nowhere, but every democracy-loving player has shown their support for it and the Ministry of Music (composer Rose Tregenza) who put it together. This is the first track for Helldivers 2 that we've had that has actual lyrics, and they're about as single-minded as you might expect. Imagine exactly the type of song about dropping in a Hellpod onto an alien world to spread democracy that your Helldivers would like to sing, and you're not far off.

Arrowhead Game Studios dropped the song on Twitter via the official Helldivers 2 account. Scrolling through the replies, there are more gifs of Helldivers saluting than I can count. I think the main reason for this is that it came as a complete surprise, out of the blue in the middle of a Sunday. This makes sense, though, since the game has a huge surge of players each weekend as they recover from their day jobs by spreading managed democracy for Super Earth.

It didn't take long for March of the Helldivers to make it over to the community's subreddit as well. There, players are a little more articulate about their thoughts. User WithGrit07 said, "That Latin-ish part makes it look like we are basically space templars crusading against all manners of life that oppose us." I'm with user Abject who added, "Love the 'Dive into martyrdom - make your parents proud' lol."

User Darx117 raised an interesting point. "I read ‘Official MERCH for Helldivers’ and was very excited… how have Arrowhead not capitalized on any merch??" Outside of in-game Warbonds and, at a stretch, the first major update for Helldivers 2, there's no official merchandise to speak of.

Digital Extremes released a single that not only promote its upcoming expansion, Warframe: 1999, but is also a part of that game's soundtrack in July 2024. Off the back of that, I see no reason that Arrowhead Game Studios couldn't get this on Spotify and start earning a few pennies from dedicated fans repeating it all day long.

With this track, the Helldivers 2 developer demonstrates once again that it's not working on the game to make a quick buck. It's in this for the long haul, garnering attention with silly stunts like democratically approved music that will hopefully translate into players and new Warbond owners. As I've mentioned a few times since the game's release, I can't wait for an album of in-game and fan music to surface one day.
