It's official: Team USA is on the medal board!

Team USA women's synchronized divers Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook won silver on Saturday morning in Paris, beginning the medal count on July 27. The women took second in the 3-meter synchronized springboard competition. This is America's first medal of the 2024 Summer Olympics.

China nabbed the gold medal, while the U.K. fell behind Team USA for third place.

Bacon, 27, made her Olympic debut in Paris, while Cook, 29, previously competed in Rio in 2016. Bacon was already established on the world stage though, becoming the first U.S. female diver to earn an individual Olympic or world championship medal in nearly 15 years when she took silver at the 2019 World Championships.

According to Team USA, Americans have only once previously won a medal in the 3-meter synchronized springboard at an Olympics in 2012. That, too, was a silver.

Bacon will have another opportunity to medal this Games, as she's competing in the women's 3-meter springboard on August 7.

The first full day of competition in Paris will see Americans competing in events including swimming, gymnastics and tennis.

Team USA divers won't compete again until July 31, with Jessica Parratto and Delaney Schnell representing Team USA in the women's synchronized 10-meter platform. The men's divers will compete on August 2, with Tyler Downs and Greg Duncan competing in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard final.
