Tinashe found not just one, but two people to match her freak: Chloe Bailey and Tyga.

As the 31-year-old R&B star's hit single "Nasty" continues to rise up the charts, she recruited both artists to put their own spins on the song and released the two remixes as part of an expansive Match My Freak EP on July 19.

Choosing who to feature on the remixes was a meticulous process, as Tinashe needed to ensure they'd be able to get truly nasty with her — and both certainly did.

"Tyga has a legacy of making nasty bops," she tells PEOPLE of the "Make It Nasty" rapper, 34, at Spotify's 2024 Songs of the Summer event in New York City. "He has a history of nasty-related themes, so I felt like he was perfect and fit that West Coast vibe in that sense."

Bailey, 26, pitched herself for the remix through a comment on Tinashe's TikTok page back in May, and the collaboration marks their first after knowing each other for some time. "Chloe’s amazing. She’s such an amazing artist. She’s always been so supportive of me and so, so, so sweet," she says.

"I thought she was perfect to match my freak on this record because she has such amazing energy, she has that nasty spirit, which I love," adds the musician. "She’s free. She feels like she can always be herself, and I just love that about her."

Since its release in April, "Nasty" has reached No. 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 — her first entry on the chart in nearly eight years — and No. 7 on the Rhythmic airplay chart. It's also soundtracked over 4.4 million videos on TikTok, where a viral dance helped propel the song to success.

Tinashe performed the hit and more of her catalog at Spotify's 2024 Songs of the Summer event on July 24, and she feels grateful to be part of the conversation surrounding what music is taking over the season. "It’s so exciting. I feel like ‘Nasty’ is the song of the summer. I manifested it from day one. It’s just the vibe for 2024," she says.

While the internet is buzzing about embodying the spirit of Tinashe's "Drop That Kitty" collaborator Charli XCX's latest album in order to have a Brat summer, the "2 On" performer's fans are having a "Nasty" summer — and she says it's easy to do both.

"I feel like the energy and the intention is pretty, you know, on the same page," she explains. "But I feel like a ‘Nasty’ summer is slightly different. We are just getting a little weird. However your freak is freakiest, that’s what we’re looking to match."

"Nasty" marks the first single from Tinashe's upcoming album, Quantum Baby, out Aug. 16, and fans recently heard another taste of the project in its second single, "Getting No Sleep." Both songs act as teasers for what's to come from the full-length project.

"I feel like ‘Nasty’ is a great representation for this album because it has that punch, it’s got that confidence, it’s in your face, it’s straight to the point," she says. "‘Getting No Sleep’ also embodies elements of the album because it’s a little bit more left-of-center, it’s a little bit more musical, it’s a little bit more, like, you want to just drive at night and kind of feel the wind in your hair. I feel like the album embodies both of those energies."
