Kamala Harris has become the face of the White House’s fight over abortion rights. It is one of the 2024 presidential election’s biggest issues, and one of the few where Democrats have the advantage. Within hours of Joe Biden’s announcement that he was dropping out of the presidential race and endorsing the vice-president, a series of abortion rights activists spoke out to back Harris. She has visited abortion clinics on the campaign trail and described the 2022 overturning of Roe v Wade as a ‘healthcare crisis’.
