Olympic tennis player Danielle Collins has long put her career first and it’s paid off, as she won both the Miami Open and Charleston Open in 2024.

However, after announcing her decision to retire at the end of the year, the top athlete has pivoted to prioritizing her relationship.

Collins first connected with her boyfriend, Bryan Kipp, in a London coffee shop while she was staying in England during Wimbledon. When they met, Kipp had no idea who she was or that she played tennis, which Collins was thrilled about.

The couple began dating and now, along with their dog, Quincy, Collins and Kipp are preparing for their new era – off the court.

So, who is Danielle Collins’ boyfriend? Here’s everything to know about Bryan Kipp and his relationship with the tennis star.

He attended Columbia University

Kipp earned his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and operations research at Columbia University in 2011.

Currently, Kipp is the senior vice president of technology and licensing at a biotechnology firm called Revvity, per his LinkedIn. According to the firm’s website, Revvity “help[s] scientists, researchers, and clinicians identify disease and treatments, find cures and overcome the world’s greatest health obstacles.”

Prior to his role at the tech company, Kipp got his start in finance before transitioning to biotech at PerkinElmer, where he worked on strategy and integration.

Like Collins, Kipp was a college athlete

Much like his girlfriend, who played tennis at the University of Virginia before going pro, Kipp is a former college athlete.

While completing his bachelor’s degree at Columbia, Kipp played on the university's Lions football team.

Studying on the New York City campus from 2007 to 2011, he played offensive guard in his first three years at Columbia and defensive lineman in his senior year, per Columbia's athletics website.

He met Collins at a coffee shop

Kipp and Collins first met in London. The tennis player was in the British city for Wimbledon and the pair connected in a coffee shop.

"I didn't think I would meet someone at a coffee shop. Who would have thought?” she explained in a post-game interview, per Tennis.com.  Though she lost at the famous tournament, the trip across the Atlantic was clearly worthwhile.

Kipp wasn’t familiar with tennis before dating Collins

When the couple first met, Kipp not only didn’t know who Collins was, but he also didn’t know much about her sport.

“He didn't know anything about tennis, and he didn't know I was a tennis player, which was really nice,” Collins said in a post-game interview. “He was actually a bigger fan of golf and so he said, 'Well I really like golf. I don't really know much about tennis.' And I was like, 'Yes! That's so exciting.' ”

Having spent years in a tennis bubble, Collins further noted, “It's fun to kind of be around someone that has interests in other things and that's not as familiar with the sport because you get to learn and grow with them and help them."

Now, Kipp has tried his hand at tennis and also taken Collins to the green: "He has gotten me on the golf course, and I'm so competitive. I hate losing to this guy. Love him to death but hate losing to him. He is [also] very competitive."

Collins called herself the “jock” in the relationship

When discussing her relationship with Kipp, Collins said in a post-game interview: “He was a football player at Columbia. Very smart. Engineer major. So, I'm more kind of like the jock in the relationship, and he's definitely more of the cerebral one."

Although Collins describes her boyfriend as the brainy member of the couple, both Collins and Kipp enjoy playing sports together.

Kipp is a member of Collins’ “special team”

When Collins won the Charleston Open in April 2024, she expressed her appreciation for Kipp’s support during her speech at the trophy ceremony.

"Thank you to my special team over there. Bryan, you had a crazy work week, and you got here just in the nick of time, and have been here the last couple of days supporting me, and always helping and bringing such a big smile to my face," the champion said.

In one of few public interactions between the couple, Bryan and their dog Quincy joined Collins on the court for a photo with her new trophy.

Not only did Kipp fly to Charleston for Collins’ winning game, he supported her through a back injury not long before.

Ahead of winning the 2024 Miami Open, Collins was recovering from a back injury she suffered at the ATX Open, which led to Collins having to drop out of the Austin tournament mid-match.

“I was devastated not to be able to finish," she said. "It was awful. There were a lot of tears about, 'oh, my gosh, I have played all these tournaments, I have worked so hard for this, and now we're at Indian Wells and Miami and this is happening, like, why?' " she recalled.

However, Kipp provided strength through those difficult days. "I literally couldn't walk, I was having to have my boyfriend help me a lot," Collins noted. Luckily, she was able to play again soon after.

Now, the couple enjoy working out together. In June 2024, Collins shared an Instagram reel of her and Kipp doing pilates.
